Caldecott Tunnel and OMC Building

The Caldecott Tunnel and OMC Building is one of 3 major projects that Cal-Trans is working on in Northern California.  A fourth tunnel bore was built north of the existing three tunnel bores at the Tunnel on State Route 24 between Oakland and Orinda.  With the addition of the fourth bore, two tunnel bores accommodate westbound traffic and two tunnel bores accommodate eastbound traffic.  As part of the Fourth Bore Project, two new equipment buildings were constructed at each of the west and east portals.  The project included the construction of a new fire pump room inside the west portal of Bore #3.   BMC perfomred the complete installation of 4,000 feet of 8” fire line, 300 psi pumps, 31 new fire hose connections, and 19 jet ventilation fans for the main tunnel as well as seven cross tunnel fans.  The new 2-story operations building of the west side of the tunnel utilizes roof top package HVAC units.
